 waves … United States

“The Wave” (freely translated as “Val”) is located on the Colorado Plateau, near the border of Utah and Arizona, USA. This area is a gallery of incredibly tangled sandstone, resembling deformed pillars, waves, folds and other strange creations. Deposits of iron are responsible for the unique mixing colors in the rock, creating dramatic long pastel yellow, pink and red. “Wave” is made up of sandstone, which is around 190 million years ago, and scientists who study it say that the old sand dunes turned into solid rock through the ages, calcifying in vertical and horizontal layers. Erosion by wind and rain has created a spectacular landscape that can be seen today.
