The Owned Man – Calvin -(5) End

Once Calvin was ‘somebody’ among his set.  He didn’t have money or power, but everyone looked up to him and loved him.  He was central in every group he belonged to.

Maybe there were possibilities beyond being a chauffeur at the Embassy, but he hadn’t explored them.

He hadn’t because being taken care of by Gert came first. Pleasing Gert came first, because with Gert he got so many material goods.

It was after marriage, after fatherin children, living in a foreign land, with no friends and no real interests, going day to day, always at Gert’s beck and call that he sometimes wondered if marrying Gert was worth it.

But it was too late to think of going back.
