The island of Vido

 Vido in Greece (gr. Βίδο [Vido]) is a small island near the town of Corfu, known from the First World War, when it stood at hospitals for Serbian soldiers who came to Corfu after crossing over Albania. A large number of Serbian warriors buried in the sea near the island, “Blue Graveyard”. During the 30 years of the 20th century on the island has completed construction of the mausoleum in which are written the names of those who passed away here, but whose names were known. The island is situated only a kilometer from the city’s port in Corfu, and in order to get to it you need is a ten minute boat ride. On the island of Vido first came on 21 January 1916, Moravian, Pirot and Cacak military hospital. Soon came a few thousands to death, exhausted and sick, young recruits. The first days were dying daily and up to 300 soldiers. At first, were buried on a rocky coast, and later when it was no longer possible, the boats are transported and immersed in the waters of the Ionian Sea. It is believed that the island of Vido and Blue Graveyard, as well as 27 military cemeteries in Corfu buried about ten thousand Serbian soldiers and recruits.
