Katrina Carter is thanking her stars that an off duty firefighter whose name was not mentioned was at the right place at the right time when her van caught fire as she came to her home in east Detroit on Thursday morning.
Katrina suspected that something was wrong with her van when she saw smoke coming out of the back of her van. When she pulled up to her driveway, she left the van before it would go up in flames.
While Katrina went inside her home to tell her husband of what was happening to her van, an off duty firefighter was driving in the neighborhood witnessed the van burning in the Carter home as well as an abandoned home next door.
The off duty firefighter who was riding his auto with his two year old son, then acted on his training to get inside the home to rescue Katrina, her husband, teenage son and a baby girl to abandon their burning home before it was too late.
Even though the home was damaged to the point where the Carter family will have to find a new temporary home courtesy of the American Red Cross until they can get back on their feet once again, they are thankful that an off duty firefighter who did not have of his firefighting equipment on him at the time of the rescue, was able to save all of their lives due to his training as a firefighter that requires all firefighters to be on duty 24 hours a day.
Material items can be rebuilt. Losing a loved one is a very heartbreaking event for anyone to endure. My salute to all firefighters around the world who risk their lives to save lives without any expectation of a reward from the persons that save.
You are correct since a smart person learns their lessons while the fool keep making them.
I think there are certain reasons behind this unexpected event and coincidence, but there certainly is a special meaning and lesson from it.
You have a very good point since the lesson from the lady is not to drive an auto that is on fire. The other lesson is that the off duty firefighter was at the right place at the right time to save the lives of the four people inside the burning home.
You have described the important lesson well.
Thank you Albert since experience is a hard teacher when the rules of life are broken.
Then usually only effective students try to avoid making the same mistakes.
you’d think they have enough troubles just living in Detroit, but nooooo…
I guess people in Detroit like living in the Stone Age.
You are right, material things can be replaced.
It was the advice my former heart doctor told me and my late mom when he mentioned that his home in New Orleans was flooded due to Hurricane Katrina.
I am sure that the firefighter who did his duty to save lives will receive a reward from his superiors at work at a public ceremony soon.
Dumb lady, you see smoke coming from van, you don’t pull into the garage, good thing the off duty was near. Good going to those everyday heros we call the FD!
My pleasure to share these great heroic stories on this site.
In fact fire fighter has done tremendous job and he deserve government medal.
