My Take of the State of the Union

As I mentioned I believe that the State of the Union is an important event.  I do not watch it live. I wait until I have read and studied the transcripts and then I draw my conclusions.  First let’s get the women dressed in white demonstration and take that off the plate. I understand that they say that is color of woman’s sufferage and the reason. My mother would still have call “faux pas” white after Labor Day is “wrong” you should have worn a white rose, a white carnation, or something similiar. Enough about what would have upset my Mom.

I am going to pull out the first statement that made me hopeful.  “We meet tonight in a moment of unlimited potential as we begin a new Congress, I stand here ready to work with you to achieve historic break-troughs for all Americans. Millions of our fellow citizens are watching us now gathered in this great chamber, hoping we will govern not as two parties, but as one nation.” (I really do believe this is a hopeful and accurate statement. Do I believe it will happen, no. But I believe we should be able to pull their paychecks if doesn’t. And I don’t just mean one party I mean them all. They have a job to do and if it doesn’t get done they shouldn’t get paid.)

“Victory is not winning for our party. Victory is winning for our country.” This should be the mantra of “we the people, all people”.

The introduction of Private First Class Joseph Riley, Staff Sergeant Irving Locker and Sergeant Herman Zeitchiek brought me to tears. I come from a military family and I am married to a Veteran. This was appropriate and inspiring.

If you have read any of my work in depth you may be aware that I don’t love the word “but”. I am always more willing to learn and listen when the word but, is replaced by and. So I am going to take the liberty of doing it both ways here.

The actual quote “But we must reject the politics of revenge, resistance and retribution and embrace the boundless potential of cooperation, compromise and the common good.” What I wish he had said “And we must reject the politics of revenge, resistance and retribution and embrace the boundless potential of cooperation, compromise and the common good.”

  1. Stand up and be counted.

as you may recall I work for the US Federal Government as a contractor. There is no greater glory I can give someone that has served than “thank you for your service .”

    Thanks for sharing this!

Anytime we honor those who have served I am proud.
