Long Way to Go for Dinner

It is interesting to note that the 50-star American flag was designed by Robert G. Heft an Ohio high school student for a class project and his teacher only gave him a B -. I guess she was speechless when his project became world-famous. It was in 1958 and Heft decided that Alaska and Hawaii would probably soon become states. Then-President Eisenhower informed him that his design had been officially selected by Congress. Finally, his teacher changed his grade to A.

Author Wiliam Faulkner was invited to the White House to have dinner with the 35th President of the U.S. John F. Kennedy. He did not attend because to him it seemed an awful long way to go just to have dinner.

Bet you didn’t know this one. Forty is the only number that is spelled alphabetically.

Before the invention of alarm clocks, the people in the U.K. were awakened by “knocker-uppers” These were people who came to tap on their doors and windows with long wooden sticks.
