Limitations

The family discussion turned to dreams and goals yesterday. Grandpa said he was too old to set a goal. The youngest grandson went into melt down mode. “Why didn’t you tell me you are dying today?”

The confusion on my husbands face was profound. I hurried and gathered the child in my arms. “Grandpa makes goals every day. You know that to do list he makes, well for him those are goals. I don’t know when Grandpa will die, I am not expecting it to happen today. When it does happen I believe he will be gone away from us and when we die he will be there to come welcome our spirits to our new life. So let’s make a goal with Grandpa today to make a magnificent memory.

He thought for a long time. “Well if he might die today I want him to make cornbread because we love his cornbread and he is the only one who can make it just that way.”

It all reminded me of the quote.

  1. That is a true saying by C S Lewis. We need to have a dream to keep us going on life until we cannot answer the bell for the next round in life.
