Just the Facts

Men are 6 times more likely to get struck by lightning than women. I don’t know why that is but it is interesting to consider so the next time there is thunder and lightning I would suggest the guys stay indoors. I am not sure how they come up with a fact like this but I do know a very sad story that happened in Riga, Latvia which just confirms that this must be true.

A young dad was walking through a city park when a sudden rainstorm came upon him. He was wheeling a baby carriage but I forget how old the baby was. Anyway, he thought to seek shelter under a huge oak tree. In this case, lightning came right for him but instead hit against a tree branch. Down came the heavy branch and you can imagine what happened. Yes, both dad and baby. It makes me wonder if the baby would have survived if the mother had been walking in the park instead.

This fact sort of turns my stomach. I already gave up drinking Coke because of all of the different odd stories about the drink and I also find it much too sweet for me. Now they remind us that if Coke didn’t have coloring added to it, it would be green and I cannot imagine drinking anything green. My green drinking days ended when I was a child of about 12. Soda fountain shops were still popular and one of my favorite drinks was a combination of coke and lime soda. Well, one time my friend and I had one lime soda too many, and just as we were heading out the door right on the doorstep the lime and coke soda came out of me.

A fact that makes me feel very tired is that the average person walks the equivalents of three times around the world in a lifetime. I wonder if they have included all the tropical islands as well.

Finally, we have the fact that you cannot dream and snore at the same time. For this one, all I can say is have someone stay up and watch you sleep and then tell you if you snored and you tell them if you had a dream. I have no idea what one has to do with the other.

  1. i showed this to my wife, she laughed and said of course men are more likely to be hit by lightning. On Saturday we were all walking outside when there was a thunderstorm. My wife headed home, the twins dogs and I all kept walking.
