Just bloggin’ – The plague

Last night I had a craving for ice cream, so I headed out to Pete’s Fresh Market to give my taste buds what they need. I’m alert when I leave out any time of the day, but I have to be extra alert when leaving out when it is dark. Why? Because my neighborhood is Garfield Park which just happens to be ranked #2 as one of Chicago’s deadliest hoods. Get my gist? I could not help but to think of the movie ‘I Am Legend’ while leaving out the main door of my apartment complex. In the movie you have Will Smith, who is a scientist that survived a man-made plague that transformed humans into bloodthirsty mutants.

I got humor out of the comparison because while Smith wanders alone through New York City, I’m out in Chicago, searching for ice cream to fulfill my craving. Moreover, I’m looking for that normal person in the neighborhood while avoiding the criminals and druggies that lurk within. I survived tonight’s journey to-and-from Pete’s Fresh Market with a pint of New Orleans – Mississippi Debris ice cream to fulfill my nights craving. The journey is not over because there are many more nights in front of me. However, in the meantime I can only hope that I soon find the cure for the plague that transformed humans into criminals and druggies within my neighborhood. The next adventure awaits!
