Devil’s Bridge in Bulgaria
“Devil’s Bridge” is the oldest and largest bridge of this type in the Rhodope Mountains. It is located on the Arda river near the town of Ardino, Bulgaria and is part of the international hiking trails “Sultanov time.” Bridge were built by the Ottomans in the period from 1515 to 1518, is 56 m long, 3.5 m wide, and its highest arch is 11.5 m high. Was declared a monument of culture on 24 February 1984. This bridge is called “Devil” because of the specific reflection rocks underneath, as well as the reflection of the bridge in the water.
