Creations of the US Presidents

The 1st U.S. President George Washington was referred to as the “Father of the Country”. What many people do not know is that he was also the creator of an unusual breed of foxhound known as “Virginia Hounds” Therefore, he was also the “Father of the American Foxhound”.

The 2nd U.S. President John Adams was known for signing a congressional act that created the United States Marine Band in 1798. Today it is the oldest active professional musical organization in the U.S. They are known as the President’s Own and they performed for the first time at the very first New Year’s celebration at the president’s house and later on, at Thomas Jefferson’s inauguration.

When the Library of Congress was burned by the British during the War of 1812 the 3rd U.S. President Thomas Jefferson offered to sell them his personal library. Jefferson sold to the Library of Congress 6487 books from his collection which was the largest in America at that time.

The 4th U.S. President James Madison and his wife Dolly just loved ice cream so they had an ice house built on the grounds of their Montpelier estate. At official government functions, they were known to serve oyster ice cream.

  1. John Adams was the defender of the British Soldiers in the Boston Massacre.
    Adams never owned slaves his entire life.
    Goerge Washington deeply regretted slavery and freed his slaves on his death (which was too late)
    Thomas Jefferson was given money by Tadeusz Kościuszko to free his slaves, but did not.

      • i believe the bridge was named for him. He came to America as one who believed in Freedom. During the revolutionary war, he was on Washington’s staff.
        Ended the war as a general.

        He went back to his homeland (Poland) to fight for Freedom.

        When the US paid him for his service (about 10 years ago the war was over) he gave the Money to Jefferson. He made Jefferson promise to free his slaves.
        Jefferson said I will. Then he never did.
