Every year in August 15 Markopulu held the feast of the Assumption, when traditionally appear snakes in church. After the end of the ceremony, the snakes are retreating from the church and return the same time next year. Snakes are called “agiofida” which literally means “holy serpent”, can reach a length of up to three meters long and has been tame and harmless to humans. Snakes are walking and wrapped around people, icons and celebrate a great holiday. But the biggest mystery is what this sacred snakes, if you’re trying to find a few days before or after the holiday, that you will not succeed. Another mystery is that these snakes on the head and the tongue have a little black pattern that looks like a small cross.
