China reacts to Monsanto worker arrest

source

Last Thursday, Monsanto worker Haitao Xiang was charged by the US federal courts of conspiracy to commit economic espionage and theft of trade secrets.  He was caught with sensitive data from the company right before he hopped on a plane headed to China.

On Friday, the government of China was given a chance to respond to this charge.  Here is a quote from Geng Shuang, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We firmly oppose the US making an issue of a single case and describing such an isolated case as an activity plotted and organized by the Chinese side to steal intellectual property rights from the US.”

China is playing like they are innocent, but they know that Monsanto is hiding something.  Also, this attempted theft of trade secrets was in retaliation of US forces in the disputed area of the South China Sea between China and South Korea.  What was China looking to expose about Monsanto?  We will find out next year when litigation begins against Monsanto in February of 2020 in regards to the Roundup class-action lawsuits.
