BERENGARIA – ETERNAL MYSTERY “HOTEL ROYAL” CYPRUS
HOTEL BERENGARIA (VEREGARIA) Perhaps one of the greatest mysteries of the 20th century in Cyprus. Located in the village of Prodromos in Nicosia, opened its doors in 1931. It was closed in 1984 due to bankruptcy. Today is infested, derelict, and its walls are falling down from day to day. At one time this hotel was nicknamed “Hotel of Kings”, but how could it not when it resided in the king of Egypt, the President of Israel and many big businessmen of the time. In its composition had a casino, a nightclub, bars … all in excellent furniture and decor, which was unique in Cyprus. The hotel is named after Queen Berengariji, wife of English King Richard the Lionheart.
