George Bernard Shaw’s Inspiring Quotes

Monday, January 28, 2019

I went to the gym at 10 am, warmed up in the sauna, walked 35 minutes on the treadmill, and browsed on my iPhone while waiting for the yoga class to start. The first thing I noticed on my iPhone is a Pinterest quote by George Bernard Shaw. “Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance.”

After an invigorating one-hour of yoga, I walked through the mall toward my car, occasionally window-shopping. Suddenly, I noticed the clothing store, Buckle, has now closed. It is completely empty, but there are many people inside working. I immediately thought of the Queen song, Another One Bites the Dust…”and another one gone and another one gone…”

I returned home and googled George Bernard Shaw, where I noticed more of his quotes.

“A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.”

“I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it.”

“Silence is the most perfect expression of scorn.”

“Better keep yourself clean and bright; you are the window through which you must see the world.”

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

“You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul.”

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

“We are made wise not by the recollection of our past, but by the responsibility for our future.”

“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”

I added this old snapshot from a local event because it is the only picture I had of a book.

One Comment

  1. Yes, George Bernard certainly had some interesting things to say! One of my favourites was his comment on being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925:

“I can forgive Alfred Nobel for having invented dynamite, but only a fiend in human form could have invented the Nobel Prize.”

The picture of a page from a book of tartans is interesting even if the connection to Shaw is remote in the extreme!
