Three Ways Top Philanthropists Relax (and Network)

Philanthropists typically make news headlines due to charity events they are organizing or donations they have made to various causes. It’s clear that much of their time and energy is spent on these efforts and helping to make a difference in the world, but have you ever wondered what philanthropists do in their free time? How do they relax and unwind, and how about their networking skills? Let’s face it networking, is a huge part of growing charities and helping to ensure their efforts are successful.

So, let’s take a closer look at what these often mysterious philanthropists do in their spare time.

There’s Always an Opportunity to Network

First things first, there is always a time and place to network. Whether these top philanthropists are relaxing on a beach enjoying their holidays, playing golf with buddies, or grabbing a bite to eat at a local restaurant every moment, every location and every communication they have with people and organizations can present an opportunity for networking. Each of these communications can lead to a new donor or someone who is willing to put time and energy into the charity.

Of course, organized networking events are always a big draw for philanthropists as well, as it’s a given that they will meet up with those who have an interest in the organizations they are supporting.

What About Relaxation and Down Time?

For many of these top philanthropists, there is no such thing as downtime, rather it’s just time in and out of the office. As mentioned above, because every communication can be a networking opportunity, there is that part of them that often stays “on”. With that said, there are some common activities that you will find them doing in order to relax.

Fishing is always a popular sport; just take a look at fisherman Chad Brownstein as a great example. Brownstein currently serves as a Director for the upcoming 2028 LA Olympics, is on the board at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and is known as a leader when it comes to assisting under-served, at-risk youths. With so many different charity items on his plate, it’s no wonder that Brownstein looks for ways to unwind and relax.

Another popular activity with philanthropists is golfing. This is often the top thing that comes to mind when you think of relaxation activities. Golfing is a sport that can be enjoyed year-round in all kinds of destinations both in the US and abroad.

Solo sports such as cycling and jogging are also popular activities. Again, it’s the fact that they can be easily enjoyed anywhere and anyplace that helps to make them so popular. It’s also something that allows them to quiet the mind and truly unplug.

Take a Page from Their Notebook

Philanthropists have plenty of wonderful qualities that people can learn from, and the fact that they know how to relax and network in the best ways is just another lesson you can take from their notebook.
