The Played 35

Lucy-Ann had used various  names.   It wasn’t scam, it was keeping her life compartmentalised.   It was sharing just this much with these people,  just that much with those others.

This was pretty standard for Jamaicans, who tend to have three different names; the ‘government’ one, the family one, and the street one.

Damian and Kat also kept to the Jamaican pattern.  They didn’t give their ‘real names’ unless it was vital.

Lucy-Ann looked around the plane which was taking her to Hawaii.  She felt bathed in happiness.   She was leaving Orlando where she’d had struggles and heartbreak, for a new place.

As the plane landed, she emerged to a familiar climate. Lucy-Ann  felt she was given a new life.
