Odd-shaped postage stamps of Pakistan

Hello friends, philately or stamp collecting is the number one hobby and there are millions throughout the world who collect postage stamps. This is not only a hobby of common people, but important personalities are also interested in it, examples are late King Farouk of Egypt, and HRH Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom. That is why philately is also known as ‘King of hobbies’ and ‘Hobby of Kings’ (and queens, of course).

England was the first country to issue a postage stamp way back in 1840. World’s first postage stamp, commonly known as ‘Penny Black’ was issued to the public on May 6, 1840 with the efforts of Sir Roland Hill. Since then, every country in the world has issued millions and millions of stamps in all shapes and designs.

Commonly the stamps are issued in rectangular (either horizontal or vertical) shape, however square, triangle, round and many other shaped stamps are also common nowadays. I will let you know today about the odd-shaped stamps which Pakistan Post has issued so far.

Pak Post issued a set of two triangular stamps for the first time on October 2, 1961 to celebrate Child Welfare Week. Their value was 13 Paisa & 90 Paisa and these were designed by Ashfaq Ghani.

Pak Post issued another triangular stamp on June 8, 1962 to celebrate the new constitution of the country. Its value was 40 Paisa.

Pak Post issued a 65 Paisa value parallelogram shaped stamp on August 31, 1976 in ‘Save Moenjodaro’ series. It was designed by Adil Salahuddin.

No odd-shaped stamp for next nine and half years before Pak Post issued fourth triangular stamp on November 8, 1985 to celebrate 10th National Boy Scouts Jamboree. Its value was 60 Paisa.

After a gap of 24 years, a set of four triangular stamps was issued on March 23, 2009 to celebrate the National Environment Year. Value of each stamp was 5 Rupees, and these were designed by Adil Salahuddin.

Now came the turn of round stamp. Pak Post issued its first circular stamp on October 10, 2015 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Cadet College, Kohat. It was designed by Mughees Khan.

After a year, a set of three circular stamps was issued on September 6, 2016 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of DGTR House, Karachi whose old name was Custom House. Each stamp was of 8 Rupees and these were designed by Liaquat Ali.

These are all odd-shaped stamps issued by Pakistan so far. If you like the article, shall come up with something else related to philately in near future.
