Desperation Dinner

It could be that only happens in my house and in my kitchen. It might be that my planning and his lack of planning make our lives more interesting. Since this is the only man I have ever been married to and it has always been this way, well, I will let you decide and give me the answers.

I actually make a weekly menu for our evening meal. I make certain I have all the ingredients. Saturday’s shopping for the fresh items needed to make it through the week. The closest place we can really shop is 20 miles away and that’s a bit of a trip.

I have a full time job, my husband is retired and my brother is disabled. We all live here. I only cook the evening meals and I don’t do that very often any longer, mostly because of what my husband calls “Desperation Dinners.”

We all make the shopping list together and everyone has an idea what is in the pantry. Still almost every time I go to make the evening meal, what I had planned to prepare, can’t be made. Someone has used the key ingredients for something else. So I literally do my best to throw something together and he announces it is just another Desperation Dinner.

Oh I have some choices to deal with it. I could refuse to cook. I could take the term Desperation Dinner as a compliment. I could put a lock on the pantry and the fridge! Something needs to change and yes, I know it is my attitude. Now perhaps I have shared I can move on. What say you?
