And Comes the Fourth Generation – 138

Each day, Ann South would leave the premises of Miriam House, where she was employed as Matron,  for her job.  She’d return home in the evening, and on occasion, make herself available to the tenants.

Only on occasion, for most days, she didn’t even open the back door.

If Miriam House had been properly maintained, then her not being there would have passed unnoticed.  But Miriam House was falling to ruin.

Every aspect, from electricity to plumbing to structure had not simply been ignored for years, it was that incompetent and dishonest persons were retained to do the ‘repairs’, meaning they left things worse than they found them.

Tenants wanted to complain, but there was no Matron.
