A Crazy Meeting

Lorraine always took the week before Christmas for vacation.

When she was a child, her parents would take her to New York City for Christmas Shopping. They would go from store to store, all the really best stores, and some interesting boutiques.  She thought it was done for her, and although her presence was part of it, her father was a business consultant whose main concern was seeing how items were sold, and what should and should not be done.

During her marriage she would take the children, her husband didn’t want to come after the first ‘pointless’ wander, as he called it. Her kids would be bored after the second store, and so it wasn’t until they were in Junior High, and would be gone from 8 am to 4 pm that she would take herself to the City and just feel part of Christmas.

After her marriage ended, her kids went away to college, she took the week to recapture those moments of wonder and joy by going from store to store just to see what was there, to feel the spirit of the shoppers and to buy herself what she wanted.
