3 ways to fight depression living alone

Depression can be hard to deal with if you live alone.  But, luckily, it is only temporary, so all you have to do is just survive however long it tends to stay with you. We are all unique as people, but nobodies life is filled with just depression! There has to be at least one or two things that have made you happy before. The key is keeping those things in your environment to help fight that wave of depression. It is OK to be selfish while battling with depression because at the end of the day you want to feel your best around others. It does not get any easier than this but what I share with you all are 3 easy ways to assist you with fighting depression living alone.

  1. Music:  Music is something easily within arms reach.  Your choice in music has to be the opposite of the way you feel. When I say this I’m saying you don’t want to listen to music that keeps you down in the slumps. You want to listen to music that gets you up and in the mood.  Music that tends to work for me is pop or rock music because it gives off that happy-go-lucky club vibe. One things for sure is that music is like magic because it can take you to that happy place where you once were before.
  2. Laughter:  Having someone or something in your life that contributes to laughter is a huge factor. And how lucky we are to have smartphones, which gives us easy access to great comedy shows like Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, or a media site like YouTube that can connect you with movies or whomever your favorite comedian is. As William Thackeray quotes – “A good laugh is sunshine in the house.”
  3. Environment: Your environment can be a huge contributor to depression by means of repeating the same process over and over with that never ending feeling of getting out of the rut whether it is stress from bills, job, a poor relationship, or an impoverished environment. The thing with environment is that you can either alter it to get through depression or get out of it into something better.  But one things for sure it is not good for your health in the long run and can lead to utilizing bad things to cope. Getting out and away from that environment that brings you down is the best option. If you cannot afford the cost then volunteering at an agency, church, or animal shelter are great forms of therapy. And they will contribute to giving you a different outlook on life. One things for sure you will encounter positive people in the process, as well as be the positive factor in someone or somethings life. Other things that have worked for me are going to a gym, a thrift store, and even writing out positive affirmations and placing them on things I encounter daily, which uplifts me surprisingly.

  1. Very good tips! It’s also good to know the difference between feeling depressed and depression as a medical condition. Unfortunately, in some cases professional help is needed.

    • And that is why I shared because when I feel depressed these are just a few things I look to. Some people do need more, but all I can speak for is the level that I deal with.
