This Is How We Fell Prey To A Hell Contractor For Kitchen Remodeling

Our family lost almost half of the kitchen after we decided to hire an inexperienced general contractor for the job. Little did we know that there are other factors to consider too apart from only considering the cost and time of the remodeling project.

Well, it all started after we decided to move into a bigger house as the previous house was getting started to seem less functional for my family. I looked around for the house for almost a month. That when I came across a house that was perfect in every way. But there was a little problem with the flooring system of the kitchen and some of the cabinets needed to get repaired.

After moving into the house, I started to search for the expert and budget-friendly remodeling general contractor for this venture. For this is decided to go to the nearest hardware stores and asked around for recommendations. After a while, I came across a general contractor that agreed to undertake the kitchen remodeling venture. I gave him the address of my house, but he said that he would now only visit the site on the day when he would start the remodeling. Apart from this, he gave me a vague estimate cost for it too without even looking at the house. It sounded strange. But he said not to worry because he is a professional contractor and giving these kinds of free estimates by coming on the working sites are only formalities. Somehow I agreed to what he said.

The very next working day, my doorbell rang and to my surprise, I saw the general contractor standing right in front of the house along with his tools and gear. Without a minute to spare the general contractor asked me the way to the kitchen. I showed him the issues with the floor and abruptly he said that all of the floorings needs to be replaced.

He gave me an estimated cost of the material needed for the floorings and told me to buy it as soon as possible. Well, to be honest, we just moved here and I did not know much around this state. I gave him the money and told him to buy the material on his own. I showed him pictures of the tiles I wanted.

He started to break the concrete floor. It took him about more than 5 hours to break the entire kitchen floor. I asked where the rest of the workers were. On this, he said, “I prefer working alone, I do not trust anyone else.”

After the day ended, he said that he would be coming to the house in late afternoon. But little did I know that he would not be coming at all. The next morning after getting up. I started to call him. But his phone was switched off. I paid him the money for material and half of the cost of the project and the other half was due when he had completed the work.

I went out to the same shop that the general contractor was sitting before. The owner of the shop said that he had left the state early in the morning. I asked told them that I’d call the police but they simply said that he wasn’t one of their guys and it was none of their problems.

I came home in distress not knowing what to do. At one point, one of my colleagues told me to search for the professional ceramic tile installation companies in West Jordan UT. But I did not listen to him as I thought that hiring contractual worker online will turn out to be a scam. Now, I am standing in the middle of my kitchen that has worn out cabinets and a broken concrete floor.
