Multi-Colored Saint Joseph's Coat Rose

This gorgeous rose is multi-colored as that of St. Joseph “The Dreamer’s” coat after which it was named. Another floral peculiarity of this climbing rose is that the many colors found in the same plant. Actually, as far as I can tell, the different colors are once again, somewhat like the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow whose different colors are the same color rose in different growth stages.

The casual observer of roses, if there is such a person, will have noticed the climber named Saint Joseph’s coat It is the rose you will generally find from pillar to post.

I’ll resist the temptation to call this flower a ubiquitous beast, because it really is a lovely rose: The blooms are soft and multi-colored, the leaves are a deep, glossy green that looks almost blue in certain light. It is extremely vigorous, grower and generally free of black spot and puts up a fair repeat of bloom during the growing season. It could do with more fragrance, and it gets too vigorous and brambly for its setting — this is a rose for a large arbor, not a mailbox — but other than that, it’s a plant worth growing.
