All you do is lift up the handles and pull apart. The light will automatically turn on. You will need 3 AAA batteries that are not included. You switch off the bottom part to put the batteries in. This camping lantern is very nice and a good size. It is all black in color and easy to work. The light is nice and bright. It is durable, very portable and great quality lantern. It works great compact and water resistant. It is made of plastic and stainless steel. This would work great for any activities.
