A Beautiful Plant – Marjoram

This is a plant I put in my garden this spring. Me and my father wanted to plant origanum to season meat and we bought it at one of the many botanist that came in the weekly flea market in my village. The seller gave us this, but when we showed it to one of our friends he said we bought majoram, a similar plant.

Our friends took to our home a real origanum plant and the difference is in the leaves (majoram leaves are smaller) and in the flowers when they bloom.

  1. We grow oregano here and it withstands the bitter winters of lower than -40. You’re right, though; there isn’t a lot of difference between oregano and marjoram. Marjoram is a bit more sensitive to the cold. Other than that, oregano (Origanum vulgare) and marjoram (Origanum majorana) taste nearly the same. In fact, oregano is sometimes called wild marjoram and it still grows wild in Greece and along the Mediterranean.
