Tips To Decorate Your Balcony

Does your tiny apartment’s balcony look like a cluttered fortress? Do you want to give it space? When you rent or live in a small apartment, there is always a challenge to decide what to do with a balcony, so most people either leave it empty or use as a storage room for bicycles and similar items to pack. Although at first, this may seem like a difficult task, even the smallest balcony can be turned into a cozy place by selecting suitable furniture, refreshing the environment by plants and turning on a little imagination.

Small balconies can be a huge challenge. What is the form of your balcony – small and square or long and narrow? Closed or open? What about the floor – is it tiled or covered with a concrete slab? Knowledge of these things will help you decide what furniture, plants, and decor items fit the best, and which ones are not suitable at all.

In a narrow balcony putting up a wide bench will close up space. So, the golden rule is to choose furniture that reflects the balcony form.

Evaluate your desires. Is this place most for picnics or for a relaxing and comfortable place to talk? It is difficult to have everything in small balconies, so it is necessary to decide what is most important to you. Know the rules. Your rental apartment owner will no doubt have a list of things you can and can’t have in a balcony. Get to know your neighbors. Think of them creating your own shelter. You may like to have a tropical bonsai forest on the balcony, but the neighbors of the bottom won’t like this idea when the water starts to flow over their balcony.

Create your own paradise. Enjoy the beauty of nature. If your balcony is very small, think about the possibility to convert it into a flowers or herbs garden. Combine perennials plants colors, put herbs that you can use in the kitchen. Purchase a solid bench or a soft sofa, which will give you joy working on your own garden.

Create layers. Plants that need more sun, are better to plant above others, and the ones, which prefer shadow to be set up below. The corners should be decorated with larger herbs. Keep it fresh. Make sure that the plants are regularly watered, fertilized and cropped. Then the garden will look like paradise. If you live on the top floor, consolidate plants, so that they won’t fall down on your neighbors’ balcony.

One of the easiest ways to give your balcony convenience is to put on a couple of chairs and a small table. You will need the place to sit down and enjoy the view, have a pleasant talk, or simply enjoy an afternoon snack. Adjust the chair to space. If your balcony is long and narrow, think about the park-style benches, multi-functional storage bench and add a table for drinks, books and similar pleasant things.

Install lighting. There are several ways to do it. If in the balcony you have an electrical outlet, think about the inexpensive lamp and use low-power light bulbs in order to achieve the warm and cozy lighting. You can also use a white Christmas lights belt. If you do not have the power on the balcony, the candles are also a nice way to illuminate your own shelter. Just make sure that they are allowed in your contract and do not forget shooting down them every time going out from the balcony.

If your balcony is not closed, make sure that the furniture is suited for outdoor use. At least, what you want is dry after rain chairs.

  1. I dream of living in a place with a great balcony. Now you’ve made my dreams even nicer. If I can’t have a balcony, I can imagine this decor in a sun room as well.
