1 package of spaghetti broken up into pieces
2 tbs. butter
1/3 cup Parmesan cheese
1 well-beaten egg
1 ½ lb. ground beef
1 tsp. sugar
Crushed garlic (2 -3 cloves)
4 oz. shredded cheese (cheddar or Swiss work equally well and if you’re into food experimenting like I am, go for blue cheese)
1 medium onion chopped
2 tbs. Oil
1 jar spaghetti sauce
1 cup cottage cheese
Cook the spaghetti and drain. Place into a baking dish. Stir in butter, Parmesan, salt, pepper, oregano, garlic, and egg. Spread evenly in the dish. Sauté beef and onion and drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce, sugar, and adjust for taste. Spread cottage cheese on top of the spaghetti and top with meat mixture. Bake for 30 minutes at 350°. Then sprinkle with shredded cheese and bake 10 more minutes. Let stand 15 minutes then cut.
- If you have the time and you want to make this really special. Make your own sauce using crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and bouillon cubes adding a splash of red wine and cooking until thickened.
- To the ground beef you can also add some ground smoked sausage it will give this pie a delicious and distinct taste.
