Portillo's Restaurant Sign in Rolling Meadows, Illinois

Portillo’s Restaurant Sign 2016-09-01 16-10-38a

The sign was in front of the Portillo’s located at 1900 Golf Road in Rolling Meadows, Illinois (Cook County). Portillo’s is a very popular chain with 53 outlets around the country. Each restaurant has its own decor.

The first store was opened in the Chicago suburb of Villa Park in 1963 by Dick Portillo. It was called “The Dog House” at the time. Since then it has spread throughout northern Illinois into Indiana (three locations), Arizona (two locations), southern California, Florida, central Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

The chain is known for its hotdogs and desserts which includes a milk shake made from a slice of chocolate cake.

The photo was taken with a Nikon Coolpix camera and edited using Luminar 2018. I cropped the image a bit and used the RAW Develop filter to lower the exposure, shadows and blacks and raise the contrast, highlights, whites and clarity. Then I used the Tone filter to lower the SmartTone and added the Accent-AI, Remove Color Cast (Auto #2), Polarizing, Golden Hour and Denoise filters.

  1. Looks like a ton of neon, I am sure the sign is gorgeous at night.
I watch American Pickers and they always talk about how valuable
a good neon sign is. Great photo.
