A Nice Tofu Recipe

When I say ‘tofu’  many people make that sick look with their faces. This is because, for most people,  plain tofu tastes … not good.

This is because tofu needs to be flavoured. It needs you to to give it that flavour. How it tastes is how you make it taste.

Another factor you need to know is that the taste of tofu that is frozen and then prepared is different from that of tofu that has never been frozen. This is because when you freeze tofu the moisture in it moves to ice, then when thawed leaves little holes.

Now my absolute favourite recipe is what are called ‘stickies’.

You can use frozen or not frozen. If it is frozen, put it into the micro until you can cut it into strips. If not frozen, use a sharp knife and if it starts falling apart, microwave it to make it firmer.

Now you have made strips. They should be fairly thin.

Now mix  1/3 orange juice, 1/3 barbecue sauce, 1/3 pancake syrup, (if you use honey you use very little), a spoon of jerk seasoning or any other kind of pepper.

Soak the strips for maybe ten minutes. Now put a little oil on a microwave safe dish. Cover the bottom of the plate with the stickie sauce, put down the tofu, striving not to let them touch, pour more of the sauce over it, and pop it into the micro at High for about 13 minutes.

Let sit in the off micro for about 5 minutes.

The Tofu should be a little crispy about the edges, if it isn’t, put it back in for three minutes.

This tastes really good and can be used in a variety of dishes, stir fried, with beans… you decide.
