Living A Low Carb Lifestyle – Side Dish 1 – Cooking With Angie

Side dishes are what compliments your meat choice. Sometimes its hard to not get into a rut of the same old same old side dishes.

With that being said I like to jump out of the box from time to time and try something so weird some are left with the puzzled look on their faces.

This is one of those moments 🙂

Today I will tell you about the wonderful world of onions! Yes onions! AND before you walk away, remember onion rings? Yeah they are awesome, so let take that up a notch to something a wee bit healthier.

I always peel the onions before cooking them except when I bar-b-que them

B-b-q onions

Pick medium size onions and slice them in half, place each half on a piece of foil.

Place over the b-b-q grill cut side down and allow to cook till you can stick a fork in and its almost soft.

Turn the onion and fill the onion with b-b-q sauce, cook a few more minutes and that is it, you have b-b-q onions!

Buttered Onions

Peel and slice a medium to large onion.

In a skillet over medium heat melt 3 pats of butter ( real butter!)

Put the onions in the hot butter and cook one minute.

Turn the onions and sprinkle lightly with garlic powder, season salt and black pepper, cook till the edges of the bottom of the onions is browning.

Roasted onions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Pick small onions and peel them, cut into quarters, three should do.

On a cookie sheet apply a nice coat of olive oil.

Toss the onions in the olive oil on the cookie sheet.

Sprinkle garlic powder, salt, black pepper and Rosemary.

Cook for 5 minutes, turn and cook 3 more minutes.

There ya go! Onions as a side dish for whatever meat you chose.
