Indulgent Bacon Salad Dressing Recipe

Some people might feel that the love of bacon is a man thing, but truth is that there are plenty of women who love bacon, too. This recipe yields a fantastic, though simple salad dressing that is wonderful when poured over a tossed green salad.

Although it isn’t specified, the spices mentioned in the recipe are dried. Fresh herbs are even more flavorful in this recipe.

Bacon salad dressing ingredients:

8 strips crisp fried bacon with the drippings reserved

1 1/2 cups extra virgin olive oil

1/2 cup quality vinegar (wine vinegar, rice vinegar, or cider vinegar)

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon oregano

1/2 teaspoon thyme

1/2 teaspoon oregano

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Bacon salad dressing directions:

1.  Crumble the bacon and add all ingredients, including the bacon drippings, together. Mix well and pour it over a tossed green salad.

For a slightly different but excellent flavor, you can use lemon juice instead of vinegar. Chili pepper flakes can also be added if you like spicy foods.

As you might have noticed, this is merely a variation of Italian dressing, but the bacon adds a great deal of flavor to the dressing.

If you like wilted-leaf salad (we do), this mixture can be heated to boiling, then poured over a leaf lettuce salad. However, this dressing is suitable for a simple chopped lettuce salad, with or without tomatoes, celery, shredded carrots, radishes, cucumbers, or bell peppers. It tastes great on a Chef’s salad, tuna salad, or crab salad, too.

In fact, this dressing can also be poured over a roast or chicken, prior to baking. We like using it as a dip for everything from vegetables to seafood.

The recipe can be easily doubled or tripled and will keep for months in the refrigerator, in a covered container or bottles, though it will probably be eaten long before then.

Does it sound like we like this dressing? Oh, we do!

  1. This sounds delicious. Have you ever tried to make a bacon salad dressing that is creamy instead of oil? Bet that would be delicious! I am going to try this one, I know my husband will love it!

    • Yes, it can be made creamy by simply adding sour cream and mixing it in. Alternately, a person could also use cream cheese, if they like cheese like I do.

  2. Anything else other than olive oil, vinegar and bacon you cannot go wrong with. Those are three basic ingredients for deliciousness!
