When you have a family member that is seriously ill, it seems you get all sorts of healing advice. Kind and loving people really do care and are often very happy to help. Today a neighbor brought an assortment of peppers that she felt would improve his quality of life. I would imagine she spent a pretty penny because she had a wide variety. While I graciously accepted her offer, I asked that she only gives us a few and keep the rest for herself and others because we certainly couldn’t use them all.
Here are a few examples of the peppers she thought would be helpful. The first one she showed us was the Scotch Bonnet Pepper. She stated that they have a Scoville Rating of 80,000 – 100,000 SHU. That meant nothing to me, so I had to go searching.
Here is what I found “The Scoville scale is a measurement of the pungency (spiciness or “heat”) of chili peppers and other spicy foods, as recorded in Scoville Heat Units (SHU) based on the concentration of capsaicinoids, among which capsaicin is the predominant component.”
I was thinking about his very tender stomach and realized that this may not be an option for him. I didn’t want to discourage her kindness. I agreed to take two of these.
I wonder if that was the right thing to do because I doubt they will ever be eaten. I told her that we couldn’t really take any more until we checked with the doctor. I hope that was the right decision.
Unfortunately, I must not eat spicy foods due to stomach problems
I dont like anything hotter than a jalapeno, and some of those are too hot. There are some recipes out there that take the fire out.
Because of a stomach illness, I can’t eat hot peppers which is a shame because I really like them.
I personally don’t do hot peppers either.
My ability to taste food is not very good so I eat a lot of spicy food so I can taste something. I’ve been eating spicy food since I was 3 years old. I got some by accident and loved it.
Glad that you found something that you enjoy and can taste!
Thanks. I have to admit that it has saved us money. When my wife and I go out for dinner, I get a hamburger instead of a steak. I can;t tell the difference.
I love hot spicy foods
I love to have some spicy food but I cannot stand it too hot so I keep some red pepper flakes around and sprinkle a bit on my food
Perhaps you can share some of the things you make with spicy peppers.
Only if someday I can post again,
I cannot eat anything spicy and wold be afraid to give to anyone else.
I am not a fan. I can’t handle it and I am with I doubt someone who is ill would be a great choice to try it.
