Ten tips to ensure a memorable prom for all the right reasons

Prom is a special night and the memories will stay with you forever. Make sure you make it a night to remember for all the right reasons with these ten tips.

Limit your mobile phone use

Make sure you’re in the moment; social media and texts can wait.

Learn proper dancing etiquette

If you’re with a date, make sure you check with them if you want to dance with others for a while. Swapping partners with another couple is a good way to mix things up, and ensures your date isn’t left out.

Wear an appropriate outfit

Although this is a formal occasion, remember that it’s still a secondary school dance. Guys should rent a tux from a reputable outlet and seek advice on what looks best from their sales assistants. Girls should keep things youthful and flirty but classy when it comes to prom dresses, with some great examples shown here https://www.axparis.com/collections/prom-dresses.

Incorporate flowers

It may be 2019 but girls still wear corsages to prom, and boutonnières are still worn by boys. If you don’t have a date or are going with a group, buy your own flowers to match your outfit.

Take photos respectfully

Snapshots and selfies are what prom is all about, but don’t take photos of someone in an awkward or embarrassing situation – that’s just mean.

Indulge your parents

Your parents might want to let your date in when they knock at the door, and they will almost definitely want a photo of you both before you go. Indulge them.

Be respectful of any invitations

If you’re lucky enough to receive an invite to prom, either accept or decline respectfully. No one likes being rejected, so if you’re declining do it sensitively.

Leave gracefully

When it’s over, thank the hosts, organisers, and any other people who’ve been involved in making prom happen. While after parties may be a key part of the night, do be mindful and respectful of any curfews your date or friends have.

Be on time

Being fashionably late does not apply to prom. Lateness shows a lack of respect for your date and friends.

Sort out money beforehand

If you’re going to prom with a date, it’s a good idea to be clear about what you can pay for beforehand.
