Why is D C Comics super hero Aquaman underrated?

<a href="http://bigbangtheory.wikia.com/wiki/Aquaman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Source</a>

I saw yesterday on the Quora.com website a question why D C Comics super hero Aquaman is underrated in the Justice League of America and Super Friends cartoon series?

One reason I believe that Aquaman, The Sub Mariner from Marvel Comics and Marine Boy who is from Seven Arts Television are considered underrated by the comic book fans is that the majority of super heroes from the D C and Marvel super hero rosters are either mutants, aliens or Earthlings who have super powers either from a chemical weapons accident or they learned their fighting skills as youngsters.

The majority of super heroes usually battle criminals in their home base of operations which are on Earth.

Super heroes like Aquaman, Sub Mariner and Marine Boy do the majority of their battles underneath the sea.

Readers of these super heroes cannot relate to super heroes who fight crime in an undersea setting unless we all can live underwater for a long period of time without the need of oxygen tanks.

However since I do remember seeing the adventures of Aquaman, Marine Boy and The Sub Mariner on television in Panama during the 1970s, they seemed like the kind of hero you can have a chat with over some lunch and a soft drink.

But since the writers of movies have to give the audiences what they want, they have made these characters with an edge of toughness that they did not have before when their shows were made during the 1970s era.

However this an interesting angle to boot. If Aquaman, Sub Mariner was at a comic book convention, I could see the fans of both super heroes go to their respective booths to get a selfie or an autograph since the majority of younger fans remember these heroes.

As for Marine Boy, I seriously doubt that fans of the cartoon series that was originally a Japanese cartoon that was on television in the late 1960s would have young fans who have never heard of the character would go and ask him for a selfie or an autograph.

I could just see Marine Boy be a punchline that goes “What does a Maytag repair salesman and Marine Boy have in common?” The answer would be “Since they will waiting a lot time to be asked for service to repair the washing machine.”

  1. I think the problem is that these heroes are overspecialized. If you aren’t fighting near water, they’re pretty useless. Sub Mariner can fly and is strong so he’s less disadvantaged but why does he have tiny wings on his ankles?

    • My pleasure to share this story since of the cartoons that played in the early 1970s are popular in some nations and not famous in other nations due to restrictions from the government of that nation for being too violent for kids.

    • Marine Boy was one first animes that was seen in color when it came out in the late 1960s. The Sub Mariner is basically a lone wolf in the Marvel Comics roster since he is in charge of his kingdom under the sea.
