Just a play on words about one of the top hits of 1953 “That’s Amore” by Dean Martin. The lyrics are kind of silly but the song is right on about what happens when you really fall in love. You get that sappy smile and a mood that makes you want to fly to the moon. I like it that the song was called “That’s Amore” because it gives it a romantic kind of feel instead of just calling it That’s Love. I have heard many times other actors and singers poking fun at Dean Martin for singing this song but even though it has made me laugh when they made jokes about the song lyrics and about the moon hitting one’s eye like a pizza pie I still think this is a terribly romantic song.
This became Dean Martin’s signature song and what was not to love, with him singing this song while holding onto his cocktail glass? The song had its introduction in the movie “The Caddy” a Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis comedy. This song was also the opening song for the movie “Moonstruck” with Cher. The title of the song “That’s Amore” is also used for a 2001 video about Martin’s career and Ricci Martin used it for his 2002 biography That’s Amore: A Son Remembers Dean Martin.
