Thoughts of the Day

Saturday, May 12, 2018

I woke up at 8:30 am, but I remained in bed, and went back to sleep. When I woke up again, I noticed it was 2 pm. Wow, where did my day go? But I was productive the rest of the day. I worked on retouching my graphic novel pages, and I now have 48 pages to retouch. Then, I went on the internet for a break, chatting, watching videos, and doing research.

While watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, I noticed that it reminded me of Risky Business. There were similar ideas in both movies. I remember Risky Business more because Tom Cruise was more famous and popular than Matthew Broderick. I decided to compare these two movies for fun, from whatever I remember happened in these two movies.

  1. Teen Movie Premise: Teen boy is left alone home, and he lives out some kind of adventure
  2. Both teen boys were into business and making a lot of money. In Risky Business, Tom Cruise character was a high school senior trying to get into his choice of college to study business. A call girl, played by Rebecca DeMornay (his real girlfriend at that time), help him make money in an escort service, where he had a big party, and she invited all her whore and trannie friends. The Matthew Broderick character was also making a lot of money at home, which involves advising other teens on ways to play hooky and not get caught because he is a pro at getting out of school. He is like a pimp, filled with lies and tricks, because he is too smart for education.
  3. In both movies, an expensive red sports car is destroyed as teens drive it around the city
  4. They had interesting choice of friends. In Risky Business, the Tom Cruise character’s best friend used to encourage him to live and be wild, which is like the friend that parents don’t want their kids to hang out with because they are bad influence. His best friend was played by Buger in Revenge of the Nerds. He also became friends with call girls, probably because he used to fantasize and masturbate about a girl who lived in his neighborhood, but he couldn’t get her, which is probably because he was insecure or inexperienced. The Matthew Broderick character was the sleaze calling the shots, and he actually told a girl he liked that he would marry her in the future. He was the confident one in control of his life, while he hung out with a needy girl and a dorky guy as his friends. His older sister was jealous that he used to get away with everything. (his older sister was played by the girl in Dirty Dancing)
  5. Both movies end with a happy ending, although both teens go through a lot of crazy things. The Tom Cruise character learned quickly to be strong, confident, and take control of the situation in order to be a man.  He even got into college at the end. The Matthew Broderick character did not really change much by the end of the movie because he seemed even cockier. But his sister started to stand up for him, after she met a problem teen boy, played by Charlie Sheen, at the school office. He basically told her that she was jealous of her brother, and she needed to work on her own seedy delinquent skills. She was more straight-laced, always doing the right thing, and she was not happy with her boring life. So, at the end of the movie, his sister was starting to act like her sleazy liar brother.
