The Red River Valley

I thought I would include a cowboy song in my musical presentations and discovered an interesting story about this song. The first recording of “Red River Valley” was in 1925 and sung by Carl T. Sprague who was one of the first cowboy singers that came from Texas. The Red River begins its journey at the southern border between Minnesota and North Dakota and then flows northward through Manitoba in Canada and into Lake Winnipeg.

The version of “Red River Valley” that I like the best is sung by Marty Robbins.
