Smoke Gets in Your Eyes

I know that many of you recognize the name of this song. “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” was a great hit for The Platters but that was in 1958. This song was already the best song of the year in 1933. This song was written for the Broadway show “Roberta”.

The first one to have a hit with this song was Paul Whiteman in 1934. It was later reprised by actress Irene Dunn who sang it in the original film adaptation of the musical “Roberta”. The film also co-starred Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, and Randolph Scott. It has gone through many versions, been featured in many movies and on TV.

I give you the beautiful and haunting version of this song by Irene Dunn.

And just watch Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire dancing to the tune in the musical. Surely it makes you want to dance too.

What do you think?
