The Beach Boys still top the charts but as surf rock continues to dominate they’re joined by Jan & Dean who come in with a number 1 hit “Surf City”.
Women dominate in rock as hits come out by The Ronettes, Crystals and Darlene Love and are joined by Lesley Gore and the Chiffons. This year The Ronettes recorded “Paradise”.
Over at Motown R&B continues to be a big success with artists such as Martha & The Vandellas, The Miracles, Mary Wells, Marvin Gaye and the first hit by a 12-year-old genius known as “Little” Stevie Wonder. Martha & The Vandellas recorded “Moments to Remember”.
The first record album by an R & B artist to rise up to the Top Five becomes “Live at the Apollo” by James Brown.
Coming on the airwaves straight out of Mexico on radio station XERF is Wolfman Jack and goes on to become the most famous rock ‘n’ roll DJ in the world.
The Beatles find it difficult to gain popularity in the U.S. One of the songs they recorded that year was “Love Me Do”.
