1955 – Chuck Berry gets into number one on the Billboard R&B chart with his hit “Maybelline” for a whole eleven weeks. The same song made it to number five on the Pop chart.

1957 – The best selling song in the U.S. was “Bye Bye Love” recorded by The Everly Brothers. Many other artists recorded this same song later on but my favorite version is the one by Simon and Garfunkel. This song made it to number 210 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

1968 – Cass Elliot from The Mamas and Papas went solo with the single.”Dream a Little Dream of Me”. The song dated from 1931 and had been recorded by many other artists. However, this version became the most successful.

1974 – Lynrd Skynyrd comes out with “Sweet Home Alabama”.
