No this isn’t a post about angry bulls. In fact, it has nothing to do with bulls at all. This refers to a fantastic boxing movie called “Raging Bull” The movie starred an actor who is considered to be one of the greatest actors in modern movie history. Robert De Niro arrived into this world on August 17, 1943, in New York City. He portrayed lots of memorable characters among them the creepy loner Travis Bickle in “Taxi Driver”, the boxer Jake LaMotta in “Raging Bull” and young Vito Corleone in “The Godfather: Part II” for which De Niro won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor.
De Niro spent his childhood in Manhattan in New York City in the neighborhood called Little Italy. In the 1960s he appeared in some Off-Broadway productions and small movies. He was recognized for his performance in the movie “Mean Streets” in 1973 and it was the first time for him under the direction of Martin Scorsese also a native New Yorker. De Niro and Scorcese again worked together on the movie “Raging Bull”.
Other films in which this popular actor appeared are “The King of Comedy”, “The Untouchables” in which he portrayed notorious gangster Al Capone and “Midnight Run” his first hit comedy. De Niro made more memorable movies in the 1990s among them “Awakenings”, “Goodfellas” and “Cape Fear”. The actor showed his comedic side in “Wag the Dog”, “Analyze This” and “Meet the Parents”.
De Niro is also one actor who has gone behind the camera. He made his directorial debut with the movie “A Bronx Tale”. The actor established the TriBeCa Film Festival in 2001 in order to encourage cultural and economic growth after the September 11th terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
De Niro continuous to act and takes roles behind the camera. He was one of the producers of the movie about the phenomenal band Queen” Bohemian Rhapsody”.
