Pirates of the Caribbean

Lots of people have been enjoying the movies where the Pirates of the Caribbean run wild. The most famous of the pirates is portrayed by Johnny Depp. The movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” first opened up in theaters in the U.S. on July 7, 2006. It starred Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley. This was the second movie in the pirate adventure series. It is part of a multi-billion dollar franchise owned by Disney and it includes books, video games, and theme park rides.

The very first film was “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl”. This movie premiered at the Disneyland theme park in California on June 28, 2003. It was so popular that it became a smash box-office hit and got five Academy Award nominations among them the Best Actor for Johnny Depp. This was the first Disney picture to get a PG-13 rating. The pirate series is all about the adventures of an eccentric pirate captain called Jack Sparrow portrayed by Depp. Other characters include the blacksmith Will Turner played by Bloom. Will Turner rescues Elizabeth Swann by Knightley who is Turner’s love interest and the daughter of a colonial governor when she gets kidnapped by the villainous Captain Barbossa by Geoffrey Rush owner of the pirate ship The Black Pearl.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” was the second movie in the series and featured all of the same three lead actors. This movie was shot back-to-back with the third movie in the series “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” which came out in 2007. The third movie was actually my very favorite mostly because of the fantastic special effects. Dead Man’s Chest was another box-office success and received four Academy Award nominations. This time it won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. The third movie At World’s End also won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. It was a fantastic sight when the pirate’s ship turned around and wound up on the right side of the world again.

Followed by two more movies “On Stranger Tides” and “Dead Men Tell No Tales” making the Pirates of the Caribbean a five-movie series.

The most popular and lead actor in these movies Johnny Depp was born on June 9, 1963. His very first acting role was in the TV series 21 Jump Street. He went on to play the title role in movies like “Edward Scissorhands”, “Ed Wood”, and the famous role of Willie Wonka in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. He has been nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal in the movies “Finding Neverland” and “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street”.
