As a child and teenager, I grew up loving comic books. In particular, I had three all-time favorites, Superman, Spiderman and Captain America.
I was really excited about the proposed Superman movie in 1978. The star was to be Christopher Reeves, an amazing actor and someone that could play both Clark Kent and his alter ego, Superman!
The movie had an all-star cast and actually included Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor. Ned Beatty was set to play Lex’s sidekick and Lackey.
The movie was extremely well done, including the special effects (Superman flying etc). The character of Lois Lane was played by Margot Kidder and she did an amazing job.
Overall the movie doesn’t hold up as well as other movies from that time do, but it is still a fun look at the way Superhero Movies could be.
My rating for the original Superman movie is a 3 of 5.
A classic movie for sure. Fun to read about again.
thanks not sure how I missed this 3 years ago!
As they say, better late than never. 🙂 It happens to me.
with the old notification system, I missed about 1 in 10 comments.
Superman The Movie was average with some great drama when Lois Lane died in the earthquake and Superman disobeyed his late father’s instructions not to turn back the clock to prevent Lois Lane from dying. The end scene when Superman waved goodbye to the warden was priceless.
I think that Christopher Reeves did an awesome job playing a nearly impossible role.
This movie has one of the more dramatic scenes in any movie. After a slow beginning about his origins, Lois Lane is hanging from a helicopter. Clark Kent sees her and is running across the street. As he opens his shirt you see the Superman logo. It was just perfectly filmed and the audience in the theater cheered like crazy.
I remember cheering when we saw that. It is an amazingly well done movie!
The memory I have is when I was a child and I saw it for the first time, what struck me most was that his biological parents sent him off his planet, and also when he throws the crystal and creates a small replica of his planet, Me impact, today I would also put a 3 out of 5. Regards Doc.
Thanks Oscar! THe movie is more campy than the later reboots, overall a good movie. It, would greatly benefit from the CGI of today!
