Mountain Music – Cover

This is the second cover by Nick Hermann that I’ve shared and I must say that I’m truly impressed. Most people here probably know by now that I’m drawn to acapella, which this isn’t. I love good harmony, which this has. This song is one of the hits by the vocal group Alabama and it is called Mountain Music. Nick not only plays and sings it quite well, I want you to notice his versatility with musical instruments. In this video, he is playing lead guitar, accompany guitar, bass guitar, drums, banjo, and even some fiddle.

Folks, I play 9 musical instruments. I can’t begin to tell you how difficult it would be to play multiple instruments while singing various parts of harmony and make it come out sounding like it was meant to sound. To be honest, I wouldn’t even try to do what Nick has done here, and he aced it. You can bet that I’ll be sharing more of his videos. Talent like this should be admired and enjoyed. He even managed to get the Tennessee “twang” right when he sings Randy’s part (Randy Owen is the lead vocalist for Alabama and he incidentally wrote the words and music for this song).

In case you’re interested, here are the lyrics:

Words and Music by Randy OwenChorus:

Oh, play me some mountain music, like grandma and grandpa used to play.

Then I’ll float on down the river to a Cajun hideaway

Drift away like Tom Sawyer, ride a raft with ol’ Huck Finn.

Take a nap like Rip Van Winkle, daze dreamin’ again.

Chorus

Swim across the river, just to prove that I’m a man.

Spend the day bein’ lazy, just bein’ nature’s friend.

Climb a long tall hick’ry. Bend it over, “skinnin’ cats.”

Playin’ baseball with chert rocks, usin’ sawmill slabs for bats.

Bridge:

Play some back-home, come-on music that comes from the heart.

Play something with lots of feelin’, ’cause that’s where music has to start

Oh, play me some mountain music, like grandma and grandpa used to play.

Then I’ll float on down the river to a Cajun hideaway, hey hey.
