I stayed up late at night balancing my checkbook for three years. I often like to review my summary statements once a month to see where my money went for that month and analyze my financial situation. But I also tend to procrastinate doing it, preferring to do other tasks. So, I realized that I had 3 years of bank statements to analyze. I did 2015 last night before going to bed. When I woke up, I did one month from 2016, before I got ready for a movie break with a woman from a meetup. We met at the theater by my townhouse at 1:30 pm, but I came earlier to walk around and check out stuff. I checked out some movie billboards, and I decided that I didn’t want to see Disaster Artist and Call Me By Your Name, which will be out in theaters next week. So, I decided to check out Lady Bird today, while maybe going to Florida Project on Thursday, if it is still in theaters.
Lady Bird was an entertain drama about a teenage girl who hopes to escape Sacramento, California and Catholic School for an exciting life elsewhere. She wants to go to the east coast for college, but her grades might not be good enough and her mother wants her to go to UC Davis or community college. There is a lot a tension between her and her mother. And, she relieves her tension with other people who enter her life. The changes in her life help her grow up fast, as she packs up, prepares for college, and starts a new chapter in her life.
Although her name is Christine, she prefers to go by “Lady Bird,” in which I think she is trying to assert her independence from her parents and express her individuality from others. I also think that she wants to be on her own and make her own decisions in life. But it is interesting that when she finally goes to college, she goes by Christine, her given name.
I enjoyed it because it is about a teenage girl trying to grow up and make the right decisions, even though she might end up choosing the wrong decisions, in order to move forward in her life. I think the movie is about growing up, changes, and family tensions.
