The song refers to the county of Tipperary in Ireland. The song has been used in many different movies like the 1970 musical “Darling Lili” in which it was sung by Julie Andrews and in “Me and My Gal” from 1942 starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly. The song was sung by the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show as they march off-screen in the series final episode.
