“Powa Maka Moana” is episode seventeen of season one of Hawaii Five-0 and it opens when a catamaran carrying a party of Spring Breakers from the East Coast is attacked by pirates. The captain attempts to defend them, but is shot for his troubles.
A couple of days later, McGarrett and Danny take a Coast Guard vessel out to the catamaran, which has been spotted adrift with two dead bodies on it. One is the captain, the other is apparently a pirate. The Spring Breakers are all missing, but the other crewman has managed to hide herself.
The parents of the missing kids receive a ransom demand – $20 million to get them all back.
There’s a twist which can actually be spotted very early on.
This episode’s name means “Pirates”.
