Foxtrot film review

Michael Feldman – a successful architect, at the same time an atheist, receives news of the death of his son Jonathan and experiences 5 hours of despair. But his son seems to be alive and is located somewhere at the Israeli-Lebanese border. I don’t think that those who are just planning to watch the film Foxtrot will be interested to read the retelling of the plot.

Everyone experiences grief in their own way. Here we have a father who was informed about the death of his son and now he looks at the world as if from underwater. He tries to move, overcoming the resistance of the misfortune surrounding him, all sounds are muffled and hardly reach him. He makes calls, organizes funerals, talks with friends, and slowly chokes in despair.

Here is a mother who has disconnected from the world, unable to reconcile with the loss of her son. She ran away from reality. Everyone experiences misfortune in their own way, but everyone is equally hurt.

And here is the son. He wanders around at a checkpoint with several comrades in the middle of the desert. There is nothing around, neither clubs nor shops, and there is no place where to go. Only the road along which cars occasionally pass and then the inspection turns into the only possible entertainment. Then they tell the stories, share memories from their lives. In the evening, he and his comrades wander through the mud into a sleeping container, where they again listen to music and get crazy from routine.

The picture was taken literally in two locations: this is the apartment of the parents and a small space of the checkpoint what makes the film a rather theatrical work, where the dialogue and the play of the actors are extremely important, and it should be noted that neither the script nor the actors let us down,

The tape turned out to be multifaceted, here you have a family drama, unfolding in several timelines. Psychologism is also important, throughout the tape we see a rather thorough and tough dissection of human emotions, from deaf despair to hope for the best. And of course, this is a film about life that slowly lies before us, deceiving with its ordinariness and ready at any moment to deliver a crushing blow under the breath, from which you will never be unbroken.
