Her many fans remember the days when she was a member of The Supremes. This dynamic and amazing lady is an American singer, actress and record producer who is still going strong and performing. Diana Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan where she began her career with Motown in the 1960s. When Ross began her solo career in 1970 she came out with her first album Diana Ross which contained the hits “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”.
When she got into acting she showed amazing talent and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for her performance in “Lady Sings the Blues”. She went on to act in two more movies “Mahogany” and “The Wiz”. The Guinness Book of World Records declared Ross the most successful female music artist in history in 1993. This was due to the fact that she had more hits than any other female artist on the charts – 70 hit singles while she was a part of The Supremes. As a solo artist, she has sold over 100 million records all over the globe.
Ross was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as a member of The Supremes along with Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson. She has also received the Kennedy Center Honors and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She did her In the Name of Love Tour in 2016 and in November of that year was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
